Nine hours…

This is a post about my boyfriend and what makes him so special.

We’ve been in the same Ashland cafe since about 10am.  I have put in a whole day of work, reknitted the band of my new hat, caught up on all my blogs (after adding about 5 Seattle/environmental/political to my feed), located knitting patterns of temporal importance, and researched household items we will be purchasing upon our arrival to Seattle.

Matt has been reading Harry Potter.  All day.  Non stop.

I swear to God, he hasn’t even gotten up to pee.

I confess, I’m throwing him under the bus because I’m hungry.  I keep looking at the right side of the book to estimate how much longer this will take, but all I’m thinking about is how when I suggest going to the schmancy restaurant he said no to yesterday, I’ll get what I want.  So, there’s at least two things that make him special…

Oregon: Not California, Not Washington

Me and Half Dome from Olmstead Point

We’re part way there. Really, most of the way. Lots of California behind us, and all of Oregon and most of Washington ahead. Still, in the immortal words of James Taylor, “it’s enough to be on your way.”

Can you tell I’m way over traveling? Trying to enjoy the time and the sights while they’re here, but all I want in the whole world is to unpack and stay unpacked. Four more days…we take possession on Sunday, and the boxes arrive Monday. Anyone want to come help us unpack?

Rather than complain, though, I’ll summarize our adventures so far. Pictures of all or most of these adventures are available on Matt’s flickr page.

LA : Yay!

Getting artsy at the Getty

Getty Center: A simply beautiful day and many many paintings of rhinos.  Michael and Ali: And Pinkberry. Mmmmm. Frozen yogurt has been reinvented, and is coming to a strip mall near you, if you live in LA.  Marshall and Kathy: Neighbors include Cuba Gooding, Jr. and my favorite glove-wearing Keaton, along with Will Rogers.

LA: Boo!

Traffic makes Matt cranky.

SF: Yay!

I’m really struggling with this, but I think that Mitchell’s ice cream is actually better than Fenton’s. Also, we had Indian Pizza, which was fantastic. Lovely accommodations, both with Brett and Kerry as well as Lauren and Dave , both in Glen Park. Nervous Dog Coffee: Of course, a day in Alameda included Julie’s Tea Garden where Matt got an acceptable cup of iced coffee, and we all got lots of raw fish at Sushi House.

SF: Boo!

Mmm. Can’t think of anything. Telling?

Yosemite: Yay!

Valley in Motion

We hiked far and high to Cathedral Lake. Matt cooked beef loin with mushrooms and onions in a port wine reduction over the campfire! Beautiful site, beautiful weather, really really really great time. Oh, and definitely check out the flickr set for this, as I took some gorgeous photos while hanging out the window of the Sub and cruising through the Valley.

Yosemite: Boo!

No sleep (no surprise), no Bryan, no waterfalls (global warming! alarmist cry! global warming is upon us!), and a nasty nasty cold.

Ashland: Yay!

Good family: Matt’s cousin (sort of–his family defines cousin as loosely as mine defines important) owns a lovely place and has allowed us to take up space while he’s in LA. Plus, I’ve had good beer, good pizza, and good coffee. I am looking forward to good theater and good yarn shopping.

Ashland: Boo!

Actually, it’s not really fair, but the only thing that I have to complain about Ashland is that I’m not home yet. Four more days…
